Kristina Cavalli, LMSW RPT-S
Even as a child myself, I warmly recall being drawn to the rich play lives of young children in my life as a means for connection, understanding, and delight. I am so grateful for the high value placed on playful experiences at home, in relationships, and in nature by my own family of origin. As a Registered Play Therapist & Supervisor, I continue to rely upon the natural powers of play with each child client I meet to 1) build a meaning-filled relationship, 2) comfortably explore beliefs and experiences, 3) work on treatment goals, and 4) support families in having a strong foundation in playfully continuing to grow together, facing what new challenges may arise.
Fully believing in play as the most powerful language with which to build relationships and promote growth and healing in children and families, I specialize in working with kids 12 and under. Preschoolers and young elementary-aged children are a particular focus of my practice, since caregivers often struggle to access services for our littlest clients needing assistance coping with trauma, family change, behavioral, emotional, developmental, and/or relationship challenges.
I happily joined the Kalamazoo mental health community in 2018, following 14 years providing play therapy in North Dakota. I grew up as a Southeast Michigander, attending the University of Michigan for my undergraduate degree in the LS&A Honors Program and my Masters in Social Work. I have practiced social work/play therapy in school, community mental health, domestic violence treatment, hospital, in-home, and outpatient mental health settings. I have been credentialed by the Association for Play Therapy since 2003.
As new owners, my colleagues and I are honored to continue the nearly 30 year legacy of the Center for Change & Growth, P.L.C.
